Russia promises to release Indians fighting in its army
Stockholm, 10 July (Hibya) - The Indian Foreign Ministry has announced that Russia has promised to release all Indian nationals fighting in its army early, the BBC reported.
The announcement came at the end of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Moscow, where he discussed the matter with President Vladimir Putin.
Delhi was seeking the release of Indians who say they were taken to Russia on the promise of non-combat jobs in the army but were then forced into active fighting in Ukraine.
On Tuesday, Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra told a press briefing that Modi had "strongly raised the issue of early demobilisation" of Indians "who were misled into entering the service of the Russian army".
"The Russian side has promised that all Indian citizens will be demobilised early from the service of the Russian army," he added.
