State of Emergency Declared in Los Angeles Due to Wildfires
Los Angeles, January 8 (Hibya) — A state of emergency has been declared in Los Angeles due to ongoing wildfires that have reached residential areas.
California Governor Gavin Newsom stated on social media that more than 1,400 firefighters have been deployed to extinguish wildfires across the state.
Newsom described the fires as "unprecedented," adding, "Emergency teams, firefighters, and first responders are doing everything possible to protect lives."
Local firefighters reported that crews are battling three major wildfires covering approximately 4,500 acres.
Tens of thousands of California residents have been ordered to evacuate, with six emergency shelters in operation.
Los Angeles Fire Chief Kristin Crowley previously stated at a press conference that over 25,000 people in 10,000 homes are at risk and warned all Malibu residents to be prepared for immediate evacuation.
Numerous buildings were destroyed in the Pacific Palisades area between the coastal towns of Santa Monica and Malibu.
