Supreme Court Says Trump Could Be Convicted Friday in Hush Money Case
New York, January 10 (Hibya) - The Supreme Court, in a 5–4 decision, said that President-elect Donald Trump could be convicted Friday in the hush money case in New York.
On Thursday, the Supreme Court rejected Trump's urgent request to postpone the case, paving the way for his conviction just days before his second term begins on January 20.
Four conservative justices—Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, and Brett Kavanaugh—said they would accept Trump's request. Chief Justice John Roberts and Justice Amy Coney Barrett joined the court's three liberals in opposing Trump.
New York Judge Juan Merchan, overseeing Trump's case, decided that the verdict will be issued Friday morning but signaled that Trump will face neither a fine nor imprisonment.
According to a source familiar with the plans, Trump will attend the hearing virtually from Mar-a-Lago at 9:30 a.m. Friday.
The court noted that some of Trump's concerns could be addressed during the "normal appeals process."
In May, Trump was found guilty of falsifying business records related to a $130,000 payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels.
