Trump asks federal agencies to cancel contracts with Harvard
Washington, May 28 (Hibya) – The Trump administration asked federal agencies to cancel contracts with Harvard University worth approximately $100 million, escalating the president's clash with the country’s oldest and wealthiest university.
The government canceled more than $2.6 billion in federal research grants for the school, which opposed demands for changes in administration policies.
A letter from the General Services Administration, which oversees contracts and real estate for the federal government, instructed agencies to review their agreements with the university and seek alternative arrangements.
President Donald Trump criticized Harvard, calling it a hub of liberalism and antisemitism.
The school filed a lawsuit on April 21 in response to the administration’s calls for changes in leadership, governance, and admissions policies.
Since then, the administration has cut federal funding, decided to reduce international student enrollments, and threatened the school’s tax-exempt status.
Over the weekend, Trump attacked Harvard on social media, threatening to cut an additional $3 billion (€2.6 billion) in federal grants and redirect it to vocational schools in the United States.
He did not specify which grants he referred to or how they would be reallocated.
