Trump makes final effort to keep evidence from congressional storming case secret
Washington, October 2 (Hibya)—The Guardian reported that Prosecutors have sought permission to file a public version of a summary that cites testimony from Trump's closest aides.
Donald Trump's lawyers made a final effort on Tuesday to limit the amount of evidence that could become public that special counsel prosecutors have collected during their criminal investigation into the former US president's efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
Prosecutors last week filed a brief with US District Judge Tanya Chutkan that could run up to 180 pages, arguing that the charges against Trump remain valid even after the US Supreme Court ruled that he has presidential immunity.
Prosecutors have also asked the judge to allow them to file a public version of the secret summary that cites and quotes grand jury testimony from some of Trump's closest aides, including his former chief of staff and former Vice President Mike Pence.
On Tuesday, Trump’s lawyers complained that the redactions were so specific that they would make it easier for the public to identify witnesses, accusing prosecutors of trying to damage Trump’s presidential campaign with less than five weeks until Election Day.
“The redactions and pseudonyms proposed by the Office of Special Counsel do not meaningfully mitigate the privacy and security issues the Office cited in the motion and has previously discussed at length,” Trump’s lawyers wrote.
