Türk: Over consumption has exceeded the planet's limits in terms of sustainability
New York, August 2 (Hibya)—United Nations (UN) High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk emphasized that overconsumption has exceeded the planet's sustainability limits.
UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Türk stated that August 1 is Earth Overshoot Day and made the following statements:
"Overconsumption has exceeded the planet's limits in terms of sustainability. The top 1% is responsible for more carbon emissions than the poorest 66 percent of humanity. The right to a healthy environment must come before anything else. Polluters must pay for all the damage they have caused."
