Two more mpox diagnostic tests listed for emergency use
Geneva, October 30 (Hibya) – The World Health Organization (WHO) announced that two more mpox diagnostic tests have been listed for emergency use, with testing options developed that meet WHO standards for quality, safety, and performance.
A statement from WHO reported that two additional mpox diagnostic tests have been listed for emergency use, with options developed to meet WHO standards for quality, safety, and performance.
The statement also noted that in 2024, 18 countries in Africa reported over 40,000 suspected mpox cases, most of which remained unconfirmed due to limited testing capacity:
“In the most affected country, the DRC, following efforts to decentralize testing with WHO and partners' support, testing increased significantly in 2024. However, the proportion of tested cases remains low, comprising 40-50% of suspected cases.”
