Ukraine condemns use of force against peaceful protest in Tbilisi
Kyiv, November 29 (Hibya) – The Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the use of force against a peaceful protest in Georgia's capital, Tbilisi.
In a statement from the Ukrainian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the use of force against a peaceful protest in Tbilisi was strongly condemned, and the country's authorities were called to respect the right of Georgian citizens to peaceful protest and avoid violence and provocations.
It was emphasized that the deterioration of the internal political situation in Georgia is directly related to numerous violations during the October 26 parliamentary elections, which must be investigated, and those responsible held accountable.
Ukraine expressed disappointment with the Georgian government's decision to suspend EU accession negotiations until 2028. The statement said:
“This decision, along with the use of force against peaceful protests, indicates a worrying retreat of democratic processes in favor of Moscow. We call on the Georgian government to respect the aspirations of the overwhelming majority of its people to be an integral part of a free and democratic Europe.”
The Georgian authorities are urged to renew their commitment to implementing the reforms necessary for EU membership.
