UN calls for action against racism: We must condemn racism unconditionally
New York, July 13 (Hibya) - Marking the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations (UN) stressed the importance of combating racism and racial discrimination. UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said racism must be condemned wherever it appears, without hesitation or conditions.
In a statement marking the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the United Nations emphasized that combating racism and racial discrimination remains an urgent necessity.
In its message, the UN noted that every individual can stand against racial prejudice and disrespectful behavior in daily life, calling for collective efforts to build a world in which human rights are enjoyed by everyone.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated: "Wherever we see racism, we must condemn it without reservation, hesitation, or conditions."
The statement recalled that in 1965 the international community adopted the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. Although the convention has now been ratified by nearly every country, many people around the world still face injustice and stigmatization caused by racism.
The UN stressed that no country can claim to be completely free of racism and noted that combating racism requires a shared global effort.
The statement also highlighted that fighting discrimination contributes to achieving the goals of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
