UN spokesperson: One of the worst mornings we've seen in war in Rafah this morning
Stockholm, May 7 (Hibya) - The UN said about 100,000 civilians in Rafah were called to leave the area, but they were not allowed to escape to a safe place.
The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs spokesperson Jens Laerke noted that the events in Rafah were among the worst for civilians during the war:
"This morning is one of the worst mornings in war because we received information that the Rafah border is closed. Finding a place is very difficult, and for 100,000 people who are told to leave, there is no place in the areas they are told to flee to".
According to Jens Laerke, the Rafah border crossing is one of the most used for delivering humanitarian aid to Gaza and is, therefore, a vital lifeline for providing emergency aid.
