UNRWA launches emergency education program for displaced children
New York, January 4 (Hibya) – The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) announced that it has launched a comprehensive emergency education mobilization for thousands of children displaced in the West Bank due to Israel’s “Iron Wall” operation.
In a statement, UNRWA shared updated data on the impact of increased military activity and displacement on education in the West Bank.
Drawing attention to the humanitarian situation in the region, the agency said: “In the occupied territories, more than 12,000 children have been forcibly displaced. In response to Israel’s ‘Iron Wall’ operation in the northern West Bank, UNRWA launched an emergency education program for displaced children in February 2025.”
UNRWA announced that it is ensuring continuity of learning for displaced students, including temporary learning spaces, online education, distribution of self-learning materials, and psychosocial support.
The statement added: “Currently, 48,000 children in the occupied West Bank continue to attend UNRWA schools.”
