US and Ukraine say Miami talks were productive
Washington, Dec. 22 (Hibya) – US and Ukrainian envoys said “productive and constructive” talks were held in Miami, but that no significant progress has yet been made in efforts to end Ukraine’s war with Russia.
Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, issued a joint statement with Ukraine’s chief negotiator, Rustem Umerov, after three days of talks with European allies.
The two said the meeting focused on aligning positions on a 20-point plan, a “multilateral security guarantees framework,” a “US security guarantees framework for Ukraine,” and an “economic and prosperity plan.”
In their joint statement, Witkoff and Umerov said: “Our shared priority is to stop the killing, guarantee security, and create conditions for Ukraine’s recovery, stability, and long-term prosperity.”
Meanwhile, separate talks are taking place in Miami between US officials and Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev.
Witkoff said Russian representatives met with him and other US officials, including Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner, in southern Florida.
He added that the talks with Russian envoy Dmitriev were also “productive and constructive,” noting that “Russia is fully committed to achieving peace in Ukraine.”
Trump is pressing Ukraine and Russia to reach an agreement to end the war, but so far the two sides have failed to agree on key issues, including Moscow’s demand to retain control of territories it has already seized.
