US pulls some diplomats and military families from Middle East
Washington, June 12 (Hibya) – According to US officials and sources closely following the developments, the State Department and Department of Defense initiated the removal of non-essential personnel from various areas of the Middle East on Wednesday.
The reason for this sudden shift is unclear, but a defense official said US Central Command is monitoring “rising tensions in the Middle East.”
US President Donald Trump told reporters at a Kennedy Center event on Wednesday, “They are being pulled out because it could be a dangerous place, and we’ll see what happens. But they’ve been pulled or notified to leave, and we’ll see.”
While the reasons for growing security concerns in the region are not entirely clear, the planned withdrawals come amid recent escalations between Iran and Israel, as the Trump administration continues pursuing a new nuclear deal with Tehran.
According to an official, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth approved voluntary departures of military dependents from CENTCOM-controlled locations in the Middle East.
“The safety and security of our troops and their families remain our top priority, and CENTCOM is monitoring tensions in the region,” the official said. CENTCOM commander Gen. Michael Kurilla postponed his Thursday testimony before a Senate committee due to the tensions.
