US temporarily removes Gaza Dock
Stockholm, June 16 (Hibya) – The US Central Command announced that the US military is preparing to temporarily remove the humanitarian dock off the coast of Gaza due to expected sea conditions. This is the latest challenge to efforts hindered by poor weather conditions since the dock was established in May.
The floating US military dock off the coast of Gaza was suspended over the weekend but then resumed delivering humanitarian aid to the region.
Central Command stated that the dock would likely be moved to Israel's Ashdod port until sea conditions improve.
The dock, built by the US, began receiving aid on May 17, and the UN reported that before operations were suspended on May 28 for repairs, about 900 metric tons of aid had been transferred to warehouses via 137 trucks.
On Friday, the UN announced that the transfer of aid from the dock to the World Food Program warehouses had not yet resumed.
UN Deputy Spokesperson Farhan Haq said: "Our security colleagues continue to work on ensuring safe conditions for the resumption of humanitarian work".
