Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi stated that Beijing remains consistently committed to the purposes and principles of the United Nations (UN) Charter and firmly supports the mission of the UN.

Wang Yi, who is also a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, made the remarks today in Beijing during a meeting with Guyana's Permanent Representative to the United Nations and candidate for UN Secretary-General, Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett.

Wang Yi said that China would participate in the process of selecting the next UN Secretary-General in a responsible and constructive manner.

He added that China supports the election of a Secretary-General who will uphold the UN Charter, demonstrate outstanding competence, act with fairness and integrity, and carry out the responsibilities of the office with great dedication.
