WHO: Chagas disease poses a major global public health threat
Geneva, April 14 (Hibya) – The World Health Organization (WHO) issued a statement on April 14 to mark World Chagas Disease Day.
The WHO stated that Chagas disease has the most serious impact among poor communities in Latin America.
The statement noted that the disease is increasingly being detected in other parts of the world, with 100 million people at risk of infection.
It added that with an estimated 7 million people infected globally and high fatality rates, the disease poses a significant threat to public health.
