WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus calls for ceasefire and peace
Geneva, 17 October (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called for a ceasefire and peace in Gaza.
WHO Director-General Ghebreyesus reported that the polio vaccination campaign ended yesterday in central Gaza with the administration of the second dose, vaccinating 181,429 children and providing vitamin A supplements to 148,064 children.
He announced that eight health facilities will continue to provide polio vaccines to children whose families were unable to participate in the vaccination. Ghebreyesus thanked the vaccinators, health workers, and families for their cooperation. WHO and its partners continue to plan and transport vaccines and supplies for the second dose, which is scheduled to begin tomorrow in southern Gaza.
Ghebreyesus reiterated the call for a ceasefire and peace in Gaza.
