Ukrainian President Zelensky extended his warmest wishes to his German friends on German Unity Day.

Zelensky emphasized that thirty-five years ago Germany inspired the world with its struggle for freedom: “You demonstrated a simple but powerful truth: no wall or border line built by Moscow in the heart of Europe or anywhere else in the world can ever withstand the strength of the people and of democracy.”

Zelensky stated that Germany’s reunification 35 years ago also accelerated the restoration of Ukraine’s independence, adding:

“Germany’s leadership today also helps secure our independence and that of all Europe. I thank Friedrich Merz and all Germans in the 16 federal states for your resolute support of Ukraine’s resistance against Moscow’s new attempts to divide Europe. We are united.”
