Al Ansari: Maintaining dialogue is important for regional security
Doha, October 6 (Hibya) - Qatar's Adviser to the Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Majed bin Mohammed Al Ansari said that strengthening the security architecture in the Gulf region requires greater resilience and preparedness, stronger national capacity and deeper regional cooperation.
Qatar's Adviser to the Prime Minister and Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Al Ansari spoke at a session titled "Gulf Cooperation Council Security: Alliances, Threats and Strategic Choices," organized by the Center for International and Regional Studies at Georgetown University's Qatar campus.
Al Ansari emphasized the importance of strengthening resilience and preparedness, increasing national capacity and deepening regional cooperation to build a broader and more resilient security architecture against emerging security challenges.
Addressing changes in the security environment within the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), Al Ansari highlighted the role of alliances, international partnerships, international law and multilateral mechanisms in addressing new security challenges.
Al Ansari also addressed relations between Qatar and Iran, saying that maintaining channels of dialogue and communication and strengthening regional dialogue are important for managing differences and supporting regional stability.
Noting that cooperation and coordination among GCC countries increased following regional crises, Al Ansari said this development has been reflected in stronger coordination across various fields.
Al Ansari also addressed the impact of regional developments on security and the economy, stressing the strategic importance of the Strait of Hormuz for regional and international security, energy flows, global trade and supply chains.
Referring to Qatar's role in mediation, Al Ansari said mediation remains an important tool for strengthening security and that Qatar prioritizes establishing communication channels between parties and facilitating dialogue.
Al Ansari said the mediator's role is to bring together parties with different positions and help them reach understandings and agreements, rather than assuming responsibility for reconstruction or guaranteeing the achievement of peace.
