Aliyev: Azerbaijan fully restored its sovereignty through its own efforts
Bishkek, September 1 (Hibya) - Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev commented on bilateral relations, the peace process in the South Caucasus and mechanisms for implementing United Nations (UN) decisions at the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus Meeting.
Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev said that allied relations with Kyrgyzstan had reached the highest level, that the South Caucasus was becoming a region of peace and that UN Security Council resolutions had been implemented through Azerbaijan’s own means.
Referring to bilateral and regional developments, Aliyev said, "The Treaty on Allied Relations has brought relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan to the highest level. The South Caucasus region is becoming a region of peace."
Drawing attention to UN Security Council resolutions and international mechanisms, Aliyev said, "Four UN Security Council resolutions adopted in 1993 were finally implemented three years ago, 30 years after their adoption. Unfortunately, however, the UN played no role in their implementation. Azerbaijan fully restored its sovereignty and territorial integrity through its own efforts."
Referring to trade relations with Armenia and Azerbaijan’s international role, Aliyev said, "Together with Armenia, we are working to increase the volume of bilateral trade, expand the range of goods and establish new land transport links. Azerbaijan, which until recently chaired the Non-Aligned Movement for four years, will continue to contribute to strengthening the principles of multilateralism in international relations."
