Amazon doubles its investment in AI startup Anthropic
Madrid, November 23 (Hibya) - AI startup Anthropic announced on Friday that it had received an additional $4 billion investment from Amazon.com, the American e-commerce and cloud services company founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 and based in Seattle, Washington. This brings Amazon's total investment in the company to $8 billion, highlighting the growing investments of major tech companies in productive artificial intelligence.
The company stated that Amazon would maintain its position as a minority investor. The AWS unit will also be Anthropic's official cloud provider.
Anthropic also announced that it is working with AWS's Annapurna Labs to develop future generations of Trainium chips and plans to train its foundational models on this hardware.
Founded by former OpenAI executives, siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, Anthropic had previously announced a $500 million investment from Alphabet and a commitment to invest an additional $1.5 billion in the future.
