Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei strongly condemned statements suggesting that the United States could target bridges and energy infrastructure in Iran, arguing that such attacks would constitute war crimes under international law.

In a post on social media, Baqaei said that no military personnel should carry out unlawful orders, adding, "Invoking superior orders does not eliminate the criminal responsibility of those who commit war crimes."

Accusing the US administration of disregarding international humanitarian law and fundamental humanitarian values, Baqaei said that any policy targeting bridges, power plants, and other civilian infrastructure is clearly unlawful.

Baqaei further argued that such actions amount to reprisals and collective punishment, and therefore constitute war crimes under both international humanitarian law and the US War Crimes Act (18 U.S.C. § 2441). He also claimed that there is no statute of limitations for such crimes and asserted that the US Department of Defense's law of war regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice require military personnel to refuse manifestly unlawful orders.

Emphasizing that Iran's position against unlawful actions will not change, Baqaei stated that his country will continue to maintain a firm and uncompromising stance against violations of international law.
