Belgium: Protecting human rights is a core priority of foreign policy
Brussels, 10 December (Hibya) – On Human Rights Day, the Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated its strong commitment to protecting and promoting human rights globally.
The statement issued on the occasion emphasized that human rights are among the key priorities of Belgium’s foreign policy. As a member of the UN Human Rights Council until the end of 2025, Belgium stated that it actively contributes to the Council’s work.
The statement also highlighted Belgium’s intensive efforts toward the universal abolition of the death penalty, supporting gender equality, and combating all forms of discrimination.
Belgium added that it will continue its commitment by participating in the Universal Periodic Review process and has already begun preparations for its renewed candidacy for the 2031–2033 term on the UN Human Rights Council.
The Belgian Ministry of Foreign Affairs concluded its message with the call: “Stand up for human rights.”
