Brussels, January 10 (Hibya) - The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell stated that the arrest of Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado by Maduro's police using violence should never have happened.

Borrell noted that he welcomed Machado’s subsequent release but added: "What happened deepens the authoritarian spiral and civil conflict caused by a regime lacking democratic legitimacy."
