Brekelmans: We have handed over command of SNMG1 to Spain
Amsterdam, January 15 (Hibya) – Dutch Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans announced that the Royal Netherlands Navy has transferred command of NATO Standing Naval Maritime Group 1 (SNMG1), which it had led for one year, to Spain.
Dutch Minister of Defence Ruben Brekelmans made a statement on the occasion of the completion of the Royal Netherlands Navy’s mission within NATO.
Stating that the one-year mission was successfully completed, Brekelmans said: “After one year, our Navy handed over command of the NATO fleet SNMG1 to Spain. Flagships, replenishment vessels, patrol ships, combat submarines, major exercises: all of this to ensure the security of the Arctic.”
Thanking the personnel who carried out the mission, Minister Brekelmans added: “Many thanks to Commander Warnaar and the crew.”
