Bulgaria tightens price inspections during the transition to the euro
Sofia, December 29 (Hibya) – Official institutions in Bulgaria are carrying out extensive inspections nationwide to prevent unfair price increases as part of the transition to the euro.
According to a statement by the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Bulgaria, at the “Euro Mechanism” meeting organized by Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, the head of the Consumer Protection Commission (KZP) Aleksandar Kolyachev and the Director of the National Revenue Agency (NAP) Hristo Markov presented the latest data on inspections.
It was reported at the meeting that compliance with the Euro Introduction Law is being closely monitored and that immediate action is taken against unjustified price increases.
NAP Director Hristo Markov noted that inspection activities cover all businesses, from large retail chains to local traders and neighborhood grocery stores.
The statement also said that as of the beginning of 2026, the warning phase will end and severe sanctions will be applied directly to dishonest traders who violate the rules.
