Canadian Foreign Minister Anand highlights the legacy of slavery on Emancipation Day
Ottawa, August 1 (Hibya) – Canadian Foreign Minister Anita Anand reflected on the historical legacy of slavery and the contributions of Black Canadians to society in a statement marking Emancipation Day.

In a post shared on her social media account, Anand emphasized the importance of reflecting on the dark legacy of slavery and remembering the resilience and determination of Black Canadians who have overcome adversity throughout history.
In her statement, Anand said: "Today, on Emancipation Day, I join Canadians in reflecting on the dark legacy of slavery and recognizing the resilience and determination of Black Canadians who have overcome challenges throughout our history."
Anand also highlighted the contributions of Black Canadians to the country's industries, communities, institutions, and cultural heritage, noting that these contributions are an important part of Canada's history.
