Century's snow in Korea causes deaths, injuries, and power outages
Seoul, November 28 (Hibya) — North Korea experienced the heaviest snowfall in 107 years, resulting in deaths, injuries, and power outages nationwide.
Due to the snowfall, at least three people died, numerous injuries and power outages were reported, and over 100 flights were canceled following the severe snowstorm that hit the country on Wednesday.
The capital, Seoul, recorded over 16 centimeters of snow, the highest daily accumulation for November since the start of modern meteorological observations in 1907.
According to Incheon International Airport Company and Korea Airports Corporation, as of 5:00 PM, a total of 146 international and domestic flights were canceled: 71 at Incheon International Airport, 31 at Gimpo International Airport, 27 at Jeju International Airport, 8 at Gimhae International Airport, and two each at Gwangju, Gunsan, and Wonju airports.
Local authorities and public transportation operators stated they would increase services to minimize public inconvenience caused by the snowfall and provide more subways and buses than usual.
The Seoul Metropolitan Government announced that evening peak hours on Seoul's subway lines 2 and 5–8 would be extended until 8:30 PM.
