China's Deputy Permanent Representative to the United Nations (UN), Sun Lei, expressed hope that the peace process in Colombia will be accelerated and that the new government will complete its political transition smoothly.

Speaking yesterday at an open meeting of the UN Security Council (UNSC) on Colombia, Sun said Beijing hopes the Colombian government will achieve a smooth political transition. He called on all relevant parties to demonstrate stronger political will and take concrete steps to steadily advance the peace process.

Congratulating Colombia on the successful completion of its presidential elections, Sun said China supports the new government's decision to prioritize the implementation of the peace agreement. He emphasized the importance of increasing investment in resources, strengthening coordinated planning, implementing comprehensive rural reforms, and making progress in disarming radical groups while consolidating existing achievements.

Sun Lei also stressed that the peace process in Colombia cannot move forward without the continued attention and support of the international community. He called on the international community to respect Colombia's leading role in the peace process and provide the country with greater constructive support.
