Wang Yi said China and Germany are major economies in the world and comprehensive strategic partners, noting that in the face of disruptions caused by current unilateralism and anti-globalization trends, the two sides should send a positive message by strengthening strategic communication, increasing mutual trust, deepening practical cooperation, and jointly upholding multilateralism and free trade. Wang Yi said this would not only boost the outside world’s confidence in China-Germany relations, but also make a constructive contribution to the development of China-EU relations.

Wang Yi expressed hope that Germany would value the tradition of mutual trust and friendship with China, firmly adhere to the One-China principle, contribute to the development of bilateral relations and the preservation of peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait, and create the necessary conditions for bilateral high-level contacts. Wang Yi said China and the EU are comprehensive strategic partners and that there should be no trade war between China and the EU.

Johann Wadephul, meanwhile, said Germany-China relations have shown a positive development trend in recent years. Stating that Germany firmly implements the One-China principle, Wadephul said he expected China to make use of its influence in international and regional affairs and work with Germany to seek solutions.

Wadephul said Germany supports resolving disputes between the EU and China through talks and is ready to play an active role in this regard.

Wang Yi said during the call that the important consensus reached by China and Germany in today’s phone conversation was to resolve China-EU economic and trade issues through dialogue and consultation.

The two ministers also exchanged views on the situation in Iran and the Ukraine crisis.
