Danish Chief of General Staff dismissed
Copenhagen, April 4 (Hibya) - Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen this evening informed the parties to the defense agreement that he no longer has confidence in the Chief of the General Staff Flemming Lentfer, saying: "He is therefore relieved of his duties.
He did not elaborate on the reason for the dismissal. The Defense Minister said it was based on an overall assessment.
Flemming Lentfer had been Chief of the General Staff since December 2020.
Major General Michael Hyldgaard will be acting Chief of the General Staff, the Minister said. Major General Hyldgaard comes from the Special Operations Command.
The decision to replace the Chief of Staff comes in the wake of reports of technical failures on the frigate Iver Huitfeldt, which was recently sent on a mission in the Red Sea.
On March 9, during a mission in the Red Sea, the frigate was unable to fire missiles for half an hour when Houthi drones approached, and then grenades exploded close to the Danish frigate when weapons were activated as plan B.
The Defense Minister only became aware of the incident on Monday evening and therefore asked for an explanation from the top management of the Defense Ministry.
