Donald Trump Jr. Visits Greenland Today
Copenhagen, January 7 (Hibya) — Donald Trump Jr., the son of the incoming U.S. president, will visit Greenland today. The visit takes place amid discussions about increasing Greenland's autonomy.
Donald Trump, set to take office as the U.S. president in two weeks, had previously shared his ideas about purchasing Greenland during Christmas, receiving mixed reactions.
Greenland's Prime Minister Múte B. Egede stated in his New Year’s address that it is time for the country to take its next step and decide with whom they want to build a closer partnership.
It is known that Greenlanders wish to strengthen cooperation with the U.S. while also seeking to enhance their autonomy.
Greenland's Foreign Minister Mininnguaq Kleist confirmed the visit in an interview with Denmark's public broadcaster DNB, stating that there had been no discussions about a meeting between the president’s son and a Greenlandic minister.
Neither Múte B. Egede nor Denmark's Ministry of Foreign Affairs commented on the visit. Egede was scheduled to make an official visit to Denmark's King Frederick X tomorrow, but the visit was postponed.
Meanwhile, Elon Musk, the owner of X, who has been actively involved in political discussions recently, stated on social media that Greenlanders should decide their future themselves and expressed his belief that they wish to become part of the U.S.
