Earthquake of magnitude 6.6 strikes off the coast of Samoa
Stockholm, July 25 (Hibya) – An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.6 occurred off the southwestern coast of the island nation of Samoa.
According to measurements by the United States Geological Survey (USGS), the earthquake’s epicenter was approximately 400 kilometers off the southwestern coast of Samoa, at a depth of 314 kilometers. No tsunami warning was issued.
Samoa is a small island country in the South Pacific Ocean. It has an area slightly over 2,800 square kilometers, making it slightly larger than Luxembourg, and a population of just over 200,000. Earthquakes are common in Samoa as it lies on the edge of the so-called Pacific Ring of Fire.
