Economist: 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers may have died in the war
London, November 28 (Hibya) - Based on various sources, The Economist estimated that between 60,000 and 100,000 Ukrainian soldiers may have died since the war began in 2022.
The newspaper's calculations are based on leaked intelligence documents, informants, researchers, and publicly available sources.
According to The Economist, around 400,000 Ukrainian soldiers may have been severely wounded and unable to return to the frontlines.
In September, sources told The Wall Street Journal that 80,000 Ukrainian soldiers had been killed. Ukrainian President Zelensky denied these reports, stating that the real number was "much lower."
Meanwhile, BBC and Russian Mediazona, which calculate Russia's losses, claimed that the number of Russian soldiers killed in September, October, and November reached the highest levels since the invasion began.
The figures are 150% higher compared to the same period last year and twice as high as in 2022.
The average age of soldiers killed has also changed significantly. In the first months of the war, the typical age was 21. Last year, it was 34, and now, in the fall of 2024, it is 38.
BBC and Mediazona confirmed the deaths of 78,000 Russian soldiers but estimated that the total number of deaths ranged between 141,000 and 197,000.
