Turkey's Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, has been invited to visit China from June 3 to 5. This visit marks Fidan's first visit to China since assuming office as foreign minister last year.
Since 2010, when the China-Turkey relationship was elevated to the level of strategic partnership, the two countries have made significant progress in cooperation across various fields, including economy, trade, culture, education, tourism, and more. In recent years, the convergence of the "Belt and Road" and "Middle Corridor" initiatives has provided opportunities for the prosperity and development of both countries. Fidan believes this visit will further enhance cooperation between the two countries in various areas, including economic and trade.
In addition to Beijing, Fidan is also scheduled to visit the cities of Urumqi and Kashgar, which are the centralities of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region in China. Fidan previously stated that activities undermining China's territorial integrity are prohibited on Turkish soil. In his meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi yesterday, Fidan reiterated Turkey's government's commitment to its relations with China, adherence to the "One China" principle, and support for protecting China's core interests. Fidan emphasized that Turkey, by opposing conflicts between parties, will not engage in and support wrongful actions aimed at hindering China's development.
Strengthening communication with China on hot international and regional issues was another important aspect of Fidan's visit. The ongoing conflict between Palestine and Israel continues, and its negative effects are spreading rapidly. Fidan argues that Turkey holds a similar position to that of China on this issue and asserts that the solution to the problem is to ensure a permanent ceasefire in Gaza and to implement the "two-state solution."
Fidan emphasized that the most urgent tasks now are to stop Israel's "genocide" in Gaza and to implement humanitarian aid, as well as for the international community to implement the "two-state solution immediately." He appreciated China's stance on this matter, considering China to play a significant and constructive role.
