UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Tom Fletcher said in a statement marking World Humanitarian Day that aid workers who lost their lives are being remembered and that those responsible must be held accountable.

Fletcher said, “We lower our flags. We remember our friends and colleagues. We demand accountability from those who killed them.”

Fletcher noted that more than 1,000 aid workers have been killed over the past three years.
