Flights resumed from Damascus International Airport
Damascus, January 7 (Hibya) - International flights from the airport of Syria's capital Damascus have resumed for the first time since the opposition overthrew President Bashar al-Assad last month.
According to SANA, a Syrian Airlines plane carrying 145 passengers departed from the capital to Sharjah International Airport in the United Arab Emirates. This was the first international commercial flight departing from Damascus since December 8.
Flights from Doha to Damascus International Airport also resumed on Tuesday after a 13-year hiatus. Qatar Airways had suspended its services to Syria's capital and Aleppo in 2011 due to the civil war in the country.
The airline stated that it had worked with authorities to ensure all safety, security, and operational standards were met prior to resuming the flights.
Flights between the two cities will resume from Tuesday with three weekly flights.
