According to The Guardian, Brigitte Bardot, one of the iconic figures of French cinema and global popular culture, has passed away at the age of 91.

Following Bardot’s death, many figures from France’s political and artistic circles published messages of condolence.

French President Emmanuel Macron said in a post on social media that Bardot “represented a life of freedom” and possessed “a universal radiance,” stating that France had lost “a legend of the century.”

Macron said: “Through her films, her voice, her dazzling fame, her initials, her suffering, her generous passion for animals and her face that became Marianne, Brigitte Bardot represented a free life. A French life, a universal radiance. We are mourning a legend of a century.”

Jordan Bardella, leader of the far-right National Rally (RN) party, described Bardot as “a woman of heart, convictions and strong character.”

Bardella said that Bardot was a passionate patriot devoted throughout her life to the protection of animals, adding that she “represented an era and a distinctly French understanding of courage and freedom.”
