Ghebreyesus: Conflict in Sudan has turned the country into a humanitarian crisis
Geneva, February 20 (Hibya) – World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated that the two-year conflict in Sudan has turned the country into an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
Ghebreyesus noted that the conflict in Sudan has led to a severe humanitarian crisis, prompting the United Nations to launch a $6 billion aid appeal to support approximately 26 million people.
He emphasized that health needs remain immense and called on donors to contribute $262.3 million in health aid for at least 9.4 million Sudanese through the InvestIn Humanity initiative.
He added, "Our support will include essential health and nutrition services, vaccination, maternal and child health, reproductive health, mental health and psychosocial support, medical supply deliveries, and strengthening disease prevention and response."
