Google to destroy billions of private browsing records
New York, April 2 (Hibya) - Google has agreed to destroy billions of records to settle a lawsuit alleging that it secretly tracked the internet usage of people who thought they were browsing privately in the Chrome browser's incognito mode.
Users alleged that Google's analytics, cookies and apps allowed the Alphabet unit to improperly track people who set Google's Chrome browser to "incognito" mode and other browsers to "private" browsing mode.
The plaintiffs said Google allowed Google to have an 'incalculable trove of information' by learning what users searched for on the internet.
Google has agreed to settle a $5 billion lawsuit alleging that it spied on users.
Users said this turned Google into an "unaccountable treasure trove of information" and allowed it to learn about their friends, favorite foods, hobbies, shopping habits and "the most intimate and potentially embarrassing things" they searched for online.
