Guterres: UN "seriously concerned" about rising violence in the West Bank
Geneva, February 24 (Hibya) - UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stated in his speech at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva that the UN is "seriously concerned" about rising violence in the occupied West Bank.
Guterres called for maintaining the ceasefire agreement between the Palestinian Islamic Movement and Israel, saying: "I am seriously concerned about the increasing violence by Israeli settlers, other violations, and calls for annexation in the occupied West Bank."
He also emphasized that human rights worldwide are "being suppressed" and pointed to the unbearable levels of death and destruction in Gaza.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, since October 7, 2023, more than 48,000 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli attacks. Since the beginning of the war, settler attacks and deadly raids by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank have intensified.
