Guterres warns Israel: We will not participate in operations that violate international law
New York, May 17 (Hibya) – United Nations (UN) Secretary-General António Guterres expressed concern over Israel’s plans to expand ground operations in Gaza.
Guterres emphasized that the UN will not take part in any operation that contradicts international law and humanitarian principles. In a statement shared on social media, he said: “The United Nations will not be involved in any operation that is not in line with the principles of humanity, neutrality, independence, and impartiality.”
He also reiterated his call for full support to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), and firmly rejected repeated displacements of the people of Gaza, particularly any rhetoric advocating forced migration outside of Gaza.
