IDF: Lebanese Army breached security zone, warning shots fired
Jerusalem, July 21 (Hibya) - The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its troops operating in the security zone in southern Lebanon detected a Lebanese Army unit and an engineering vehicle entering the security zone by approximately 150 meters.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said its troops operating in the security zone in southern Lebanon detected a Lebanese Army unit and an engineering vehicle entering the security zone by approximately 150 meters.
According to the IDF, the incident occurred in the Zoter A-Sharkiye area. It alleged that the Lebanese Army unit removed obstacles within the security zone in violation of the agreements between the two sides.
The Israeli military said its soldiers fired warning shots into the air only, without endangering the Lebanese forces, prompting the unit to withdraw from the area. It added that there were no fatalities or injuries in the incident.
The statement also noted that the area entered by the Lebanese Army was not part of the "pilot zone" and called on the Lebanese Army to act in accordance with the existing agreements and operate only in the agreed areas.
The IDF warned that any deviation without prior coordination could put the safety of forces operating on the ground at risk.
