In Gaza, around 160,000 children vaccinated against polio in two days
Stockholm, September 3 (Hibya) - According to a Facebook announcement from local health authorities, approximately 160,000 children have been vaccinated against polio in Gaza over the past two days.
The UN aims to vaccinate 640,000 children in Gaza against the disease. The first case of the polio virus was found in a 10-month-old baby. This was the first case of polio in Gaza in 25 years.
The vaccination program started on Sunday after the World Health Organization (WHO) reached an agreement with Israel for a temporary pause in fighting and bombings in Gaza.
The polio virus can cause permanent paralysis, and it is therefore also known as infantile paralysis.
