Israeli citizens banned from entering Maldives
Stockholm, June 3 (Hibya) - Israeli citizens will no longer be allowed to travel to the Maldives in the Indian Ocean.
The Maldivian government announced yesterday that no one holding an Israeli passport will be allowed to set foot in the Maldives.
In response, the Israeli Foreign Ministry warned its citizens, including those with dual citizenship, not to travel to the islands. It also warned Israelis already there to return home immediately.
The Maldivian population is predominantly Muslim, and the decision was taken because of Israel's war in Gaza. President Mohamed Muizu strongly condemned last week's attack on a refugee camp in Rafah, which killed at least forty people.
The Maldives is a popular tourist destination and according to The Times of Israel, more than 20,000 Israelis traveled there last year.
