Sharing details of the integration progress achieved during the Cypriot Presidency, Kos said: "Ten negotiating chapters were opened with Ukraine and Moldova. Four chapters were closed with Montenegro. Albania met the interim benchmarks for the Fundamentals cluster and will soon begin closing chapters."

Kos also announced that a financial package had been presented, saying: "For the first time in 17 years, we have begun working on an accession treaty for a new member state, and we presented the financial package with Montenegro's accession in mind."

Thanking the team that successfully completed the Presidency, Kos said: "On the final day of the Presidency, I would like to thank Marilena Raouna and the entire Cypriot EU Presidency team for everything they have done. I look forward to building further on your work together with the Irish Presidency."
