Lahbib: EU provides 2 million euros in funding to the Democratic Republic of the Congo
Brussels, January 12 (Hibya) – EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness and Crisis Management Hadja Lahbib announced that the EU has provided 2 million euros in emergency aid to South Kivu province in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
EU Commissioner Hadja Lahbib issued a statement on the escalating events in eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo and the resulting humanitarian crisis.
Drawing attention to displacement in the region, Lahbib said: “Due to the increase in violence in South Kivu province, more than half a million people have been displaced.”
Detailing the EU’s concrete steps in response to the crisis, Commissioner Lahbib concluded: “In response, the EU is doing the following: providing 2 million euros in emergency aid to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and delivering vital supplies from EU stocks in Nairobi to support refugees arriving in Burundi.”
