Landslides kill at least 19 people in India
Stockholm, July 30 (Hibya) - At least 19 people, including two children, have been killed, and scores more are feared trapped after massive landslides hit several hilly areas in Kerala's Wayanad district early Tuesday.
Central and state authorities have launched large-scale search and rescue operations.
The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority (KSDMA) said the Fire Service and NDRF teams had been deployed to the affected area. An additional NDRF team is on its way to Wayanad.
According to a Facebook post by KSDMA, two teams from the Kannur Defense Security Corps have also been instructed to go to Wayanad to assist in rescue efforts.
Officials said that Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, and Noolpuzha villages are among the areas affected and cut off by the landslides. District officials said that many families have moved to various camps or to relatives' homes following the landslides.
