Lavrov: The UN Charter should be the legal foundation of a multipolar world
Moscow, February 4 (Hibya) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov believes that the approaches of representatives of the new US administration to international processes do not demonstrate respect for Washington's obligations under the UN Charter.
In an article titled "The UN Charter should be the legal foundation of a multipolar world," published in Russia in Global Affairs, Lavrov wrote: "With the return of the Republican administration led by Donald Trump, Washington's perception of international processes after World War II has taken on a new dimension."
Lavrov noted that "the new Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, made very significant statements in the Senate on January 15," emphasizing that "the post-war world order is not only outdated but has turned into a weapon against US interests."
He added that "the shift to the concept of 'America First' has troubling echoes of Hitler-era slogans and that focusing on 'peace through strength' could ultimately bury diplomacy."
Lavrov stressed that the US should adapt to the reality of a multipolar world, where it could become one of the responsible power centers alongside Russia, China, and other global forces.
He concluded that Russia is ready to work towards strengthening the legal foundations of international relations and coordinating a balance of interests in global politics.
