Lazzarini: 3 weeks left until Knesset's ban on UNRWA begins
New York, January 8 (Hibya) - The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Philippe Lazzarini, reminded that 3 weeks remain until the Knesset's ban on UNRWA begins.
UNRWA Commissioner-General Lazzarini reminded that 3 weeks remain until the Knesset's ban on UNRWA begins.
Emphasizing the catastrophic effects of the decision on the supported individuals, Lazzarini said: "These basic services include delivering humanitarian aid to the people in Gaza and educating 50,000 children attending UNRWA schools in the occupied West Bank. Other UN agencies have acknowledged that they cannot fill this gap or directly provide education and health services."
Lazzarini noted that the fate and future of over 650,000 children in Gaza, who have been out of school for a second consecutive year, remain uncertain. "In the absence of UNRWA or functioning Palestinian institutions, the State of Israel, as an occupying power, will be forced to provide aid and services to the population in the occupied Palestinian territories, including Gaza," he said.
